SquirrelMail and Horde are no longer available
For those who want to view and send email from the browser, SquirellMail and Horde were attractive application alternatives that came pre-installed in cPanel. Unfortunately, due to security issues resulting from the lack of updates, cPanel no longer supports them.
What is SquirellMail and Horde?
Both SquirellMail and Horde have been added to cPanel since webmail became available from cPanel. They haven't undergone much change in terms of looks or functionality over time.
Why is cPanel dropping SquirellMail and Horde?
As with other open source applications or programs, once supported by an active developer community that offered development potential, SquirellMail and Horde gradually lost developer interest in favor of other priority projects and thus no longer received updates. For example, in the case of SquirellMail, the last update occurred in May 2013. Meanwhile, 4 versions of PHP reached the end of life and the security patches provided by the current developers did not solve the existing problems and forced cPanel to make this decision. In the case of Horde, Horde support has been removed from cPanel and WHM starting with version 108. This is because Horde does not support PHP 8.x and PHP 7.4 reached end-of-life (EOL) in November 2022.
The removal of SquirrelMail and Horde from our webmail options leads us to suggest using Roundcube only.
